Dr Joiner

in Our DJs
June 08, 2020

Dr Joiner's surgery is open every 1st Thursday for Consultation Hour, a very unique blend of synth & electronica from the 1970s to the present day, from 9pm on Safehouse Radio.

Dr. Joiner started DJing in the mid-nineties. He quickly specialized in Detroit, minimal techno, Schranz and acid with artists like DBX, Wolfgang Voigt, Neil Landstrumm and Moritz von Oswald - labels like Peacefrog, Basic Channel, Chain Reaction. He himself listened to techno trance from labels like Superstition, Harthouse and Eye-Q.

Last year Joiner switched from Serato and vinyl mixing to digital formats and expanded his musical spectrum to include melodic techno. But his heart still beats for straight techno - direct and without frills. His sets are characterized by a steady increase in tempo and hardness, which - at least in live performance - still likes to culminate in Neil Landstrumms classic Finnish Deception: Boom!

His penchant for straightforward music can already be found in the influences of hard Westcoast rap since the late 80s and Kraftwerk, but also early EBM and Industrial with parallels in the early Neue Deutsche Welle from Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft and Palais Schaumburg to Andreas Dorau and current releases such as from the Kernkrach label and bands like Kühle Matrosen. Joiner is currently part of the popular Hamburg NAUTILUS collective, which organizes club events and techno open-airs in and around Hamburg.

Since mid-2020, Dr. Joiner has joined Safehouse Radio and delivers his two-hour show "Dr. Joiner's Consultation-Hour", "the show where the rainbows are dancing their butts off" every first Thursday of the month. In the first hour Dr. Joiner presents crazy and confused, funny and strange, hard and soft tracks from many years of electronic music: "The madness goes on", "pearls from the realm of unconscious" - broken English free house. In the second hour Dr. Joiner boards a feisty techno set with current hammers directly for the club.

So, folks, "Join the Joiner" here on Safehouse Radio!

Psyvex

in Our DJs
June 08, 2020

The hardest show on earth! Psyvex will without doubt leave his mark on Safehouse Radio every 3rd Wednesday from 9pm with Kick Distortion. Turn it up! Or maybe not...

psyvex banner

Psyvex has always loved music from a young age, his passion really grew back in 97/98 listen to rave tapes from the mighty Helter Skelter. Hard trance was favourite at the start, one day he put a Scorpio tape into his Walkman and the love for the harder edge of harder styles was born. Soon after the this he bought his first set of turntables. Record shopping at least twice a month in the Spun-Out record shop. That then opened his eyes to more of the harder styles. Buying Acid Techno, Hardcore, Gabber & Freeform, his record collection started to grow as did his passion.

A group of mates, including himself started to go to events almost weekly, as a group their passion then turned to running their own events called Energycore. Many events were run by the guys and
they played along side some of the biggest names in the hardcore genre. In 2004 he then got an opportunity, after sending a mix tape to Hardcore Heaven, to play in their new talent arena, this was set up in the foyer of the mighty Sanctuary in Milton Keynes where he played millennium gabber.

Energycore teamed up Square One and started to combine forces as their nights grew more popular. They were also residents at the Bass Disfunktion and then later United Federation of Hardcore
UFOH. Sadly, that finally ran its course due to closures of various venues. His passion for music never went away and collecting music never stopped. Due to family and work life there were many years where he would only DJ as a hobby. He then had a few years of trying production and working with various names in the hardcore scene (Hattrixx, Joey Riot, Kurt) paying for studio time with them, to make a handful of tracks. All six of these tracks were released on various labels. But due to family life and not having enough time, this also faded away. Fast forward to 2017/18 and he wanted to start picking back up his passion and doing more. In 2019 he was/is a regular at the fast-growing Gabber event Called Chapel of Chaos, run by Olly Thumpa. He got the opportunity to play at their ‘Back to The Nineties’ event, where he played alongside a group of his piers (Scorpio, Marc Smith & Leviathan amongst others) and even had 2 of his favourite MCs on his set (Ribbz & Squidgy B).

Psyvex now releases fortnightly gabber mixes on his SoundCloud ranging across all the years that got him to that point. He would love to have more DJ sets at events and has now started a monthly radio slot on Safehouse Radio, every 4 th Wednesday of each month, where he gets to share all the music he loves.

Outland

in Our DJs
June 08, 2020

Catch Outland's energetic show Rave The City on Safehouse Radio every 3rd Wednesday from 8pm.

Outland's first taste in electronic music came in 1991 when his parents bought him a Walkman and the Thin Ice 2 double tape. Once at secondary school and following on from being bullied, he started hanging around with other boys who introduced him to the world of Dreamscape and Sterns, DJs like Lenny Dee and Madness, Luke Slater etc and he was given some copies of tapes circa 1993.

Outland loved the techno sound and then started buying his record collection from then on. His dad bought him a pair of belt drive turntables and a mixer and he was soon trying to mix. He'd make half decent mix tapes and give them to people at school.

Outland started going to events circa 95 underage but we won't go into that! He's been into the hardcore and techno scene as well as trance and some house & DnB as well ever since. The name Outland is influenced by the 1981 Sean Connory film of the same name, depicting corporate dehumanization. He likes to think in today's mad world people can escape that and listen to his mixes as a release from all their worries.
